KUANTAN & KEMAMAN ROAD TRIP

Things to do in Kuantan & Kemaman during school holidays:

1. Stumbled upon this road side durian stall before our accommodation is ready for check in. Have super nice durian though I’m not big fan of durian.

P6133488P6133492 P6133489

  2. Drove 15 mins to Teluk Cempedak (the nearest beach to Kuantan town), soak under sun, dip your feet in the clear water, camwhore & doing the compulsory jump-shot thingy :)

3. After a tiring playtime by the beach, it’s time to continue makan. 5 mins walk from the beach, there’s this awesome curry laksa recommended by wikitravel. (Sorry lar, forgot what name)

P6133512P6133506

Oh, excuse me – allow me to add, THEY SERVED THE BESTEST TEH-O-AIS I’VE EVER TRIED!!! we had like – 8 glasses of them??

4.   Checked into a private run hotel, it’s a double story house converted to a place to stay. Privacy of a house, comfort and facilities of a hotel. wahlau, damn nice!

5. In the evening, continue the makan marathon by driving 1 hour to Kemaman. Have the famous Hai Peng coffee. How good it is? Hah! It is bloody-extremely-freaking-super duper-damn-f***king good!! I can’t describe how good it is in word, you just gotta go try it yourself. The coffee is damn good, the nasi dagang is awesome, the rotibakar is excellent, damn, even the french fries is freaking tasty!

6. On the way back from Kemaman to Kuantan, you’ll pass by some pasar malam. Do stop over and have some durians, keropok lekor, fried chicken drumstick @ RM 1 per pc, cheap!

7. Just 15 mins after the pasar malam stop, you’ll see Pak Su Seafood Restaurant at the left of Jalan Berserah. Yeah, by this time, we were so full already but we just gotta try since they are famous for Stuffed Crab.

P6133579Dine by the seaside, lovely atmosphere :)

10. Suppose to have begger’s chicken but they dont open for lunch. Then back to KL .

TAK FOK HONG KONG SEAFOOD RESTAURANT

Few weeks ago, my neighbours told my mum there’s this really cheap and good crab in Desa Aman Puri, Kepong. My mum, being the greatest crab lover, has since wanting to visit this restaurant.

We found ourselves heading to Kepong on one fine Sunday…

2659201196_d86a26757c_o

After missing a few turns, we reached Tak Fok around 5.45 p.m. Considering it was quite early and there was only 1 table occupied, we sat at one of the tables on the ground floor.

DSC05388

The ground floor floor space is rather small. If the tables are seated to max (i.e. 10 person), it can be very cramp inside. When I first walked in, there’s also this unpleasant smell not much to my liking. Else, there’s nothing much about the interior of the restaurant, simple round tables with chairs – typical Chinese restaurant.

On the walls, they have pasted some pictures of their dishes and promotion item. I found that Tak Fok is really famous, apparently their have appeared on television (even SG’s!) and newspaper.

2658374295_f6f373d2d5_o

According to the newspaper cut outs, their most famous dish is the Cream and Butter Crab (above pic). But mum thinks that it can be very jelak so we didn’t order that. The waitress told us that to order 3kg of crabs @ RM 20/ kg, we have to order min 4 dishes, else we have to pay a full price of RM 26/ kg. (Btw, we were told it was RM 18/kg before this, guess they increase their price after they got famous!) We ordered sweet & sour pork, stir fried fish, claypot toufu, fried yau mak and 3kgs of crab – 1kg salted egg + 2kg sweet & sour chilli. Oh, some mantou to go with the crabs too!

DSC05393DSC05391DSC05400DSC05398

The dishes taste average overall. The sweet & sour pork is quite good as it uses firm lean meat compare to minced meat at some other place. Fish and toufu is ok – the normal thing you’ll get in other places. Extra credit must be give to the vege, fu yu yau mak, very crunchy and flavourful! I like it very much!

The crabs were served right after the dished were served. Not a good idea though, because by the time you finish the dishes, the crabs were left cold already. At this time, the restaurant has filled to the brim, many ppl queuing outside for tables. Hence, my advice is to come early and avoid the dinner crowd.

DSC05394
The Salted Egg Crab is quite good. For 1 kg, you’ll get 3 medium size crabs. Not bad! Lots of salted egg yolk used in this dish. But the crab meat inside is rather bland coz the taste of the salted egg yolk was not ‘absorbed’ inside.

DSC05399 DSC05396

Next up is the all time favourite of my family – Sweet & Sour Chilli Crab! We have 2 kg of these and some fried mantou to dip in the thick gravy. Taste is quite good, a bit salty and not enough spicy for us. And unfortunately it was served long time already when we ate this. I still prefer the ones in Hai Pan @ Jalan Klang Lama. Of course, you’ll have to pay more there lar!

The crabs were at RM 20-22 per kg, depending the type of cooking, very cheap for Klang Valley standard and freshness up to mark. But for sure, those RM 40 per kg cant be use in this case for fair comparison lar. The dishes are quite expensive though, the sweet & sour pork and fish were priced a whooping RM 20 & RM 25 each, and portion is very small! Toufu and fried yau mak at RM 8-10 , very good deal and yummy too! I guess this is the rationale behind the min order of dishes rule – the margin for these are to cover the margin of the crabs! Perhaps, you can consider ordering more vege less meat for the min order.

I’m hopeless in directions anywhere outside KL area, so here’s the direction quoted from vkeong.com who I’ve copied some pictures from and also has a well written review on Tak Fook.

To reach here, exit the Damansara-Kepong toll towards Kepong. Keep left and you will come to an intersection. Head straight up a hill and take a left turn at the end of the road. You will see a road sign showing that you’re heading to Rawang.

After taking the left turn, head straight until you come to a traffic light. Here, you will see Shell and McDonald’s on your left. Go straight some more and you will see a lot of shops on your right. Tak Fok is just beside the first big hawker center you see. Refer to the wikimapia if you are still unsure, I have centered its location: http://wikimapia.org/#lat=3.2113248&lon=101.6153276&z=19&l=0&m=a&v=2

HU LALA! NEW ZEALAND NATURAL ICE CREAM MY FAV!

Here I’m having my 30% off New Zealand Natural Ice Cream at 2.00 a.m. morning.. Hehe :P (Shut up, I dont need anyone to tell me how fattening it is)

DSC05413

DSC05412

Forget the fact I camwhored without any makeup, and my messy hair. It’s 2 am ok?!

I bought a regular tub of Chocolate Fudge Brownies and Mint Chocolate @ 30% off for RM 17.40 only. I tell you what, NZ Natural Ice Cream is definitely the best-est ice cream ever! (dai I named it my favourite of all!) The Chocolate Fudge Brownies is so chocolaty and has LARGE chunks of brownies in it. The Mint Chocolate is ever minty and also has lots of large choco chips in it! Yums!

NZ is way better than BR because 11 out of 12 months have 30 days, but only 7 with 31 days. Hehe. And there’s practically not queue at all! Their ice creams are yummier, and the take away bags are those thermal bags so the ice creams last longer compare with BR’s paper bag.

Ahem, now allow me to put up another camwhore picture with the NZ Natural Ice Cream. (please, please) Just one onlyyy…

CAUTION WHILE ORDERING IN ITALLIANNIES

Hey everybody, I’m not going to do the normal how good Italliannies’ food is thingy. Instead, I’ve got a complain to made.

Before that, I only got 16 mins left (at the point i’m typing this) to do this post, and I gotta run to watch my favourite TV show on Sunday – Beautiful Cooking & Jason’s Food Review (or something like that, whatever la!)

Eh.. on Friday I went Italliannies The Gardens with my colleagues and Harold (gosh, he left!) and was eager to try the Set Lunch thing. Apparently the lunches price starts from RM 13.90++, comes with soup and drinks somemore!

Somehow we decided to order ala carte because the set lunch thingy isn’t that interesting afterall, the more decent ones coz RM29++.  So we ordered these:

1 platter (some platter thingy consist of cheeseball, potato ball, fried vege and fried sotong calamari)
1 pizza beef ball pizza
1 shrimp linguine pasta
1 pasta with chicken (forgot what the name)

Ok fine, 9 mins left, gotta cut it real short. My colleagues ordered the 1st 2 items while I ordered the 2 pastas coz I love Italliannies pasta so much.

Me: I want this & this pasta (points at menu)

Waitress: ok, what size

Me: Erm, it’s meant for sharing (seriously, I thought there were only 2 size – lunch & dinner, coz I alwayz have these)

Waitress: Ok..

Lalala.. after she went off, while flipping through the menu, I realised there’s this ABUNDON (something like that) size which is a party size for 4-6 pax. Heck, I felt something’s not right. Went straight to her to check, yes, she put in the ABUNDON size for BOTH PASTA! wtf!

Told her to change to the dinner size, she said most like cant because they have started cooking it. Damn.

I bet those who went to Italliannies before would know how their portion is like. Imagine the ABUNDON size is 2.5 times larger than the dinner size. And best part – we had TWO of them (plus another 1 platter and 1 pizza) wtf! And! The food arrived 30 mins later after I told her to change, dont tell me at that time, they already started cooking!

Normally when I dine in Italliannies 1 U, the person who takes the order would recommend what size you should take, and adjust the sizes for you according to the number of dishes. But the stupid waitress didn’t in The Gardens didn’t. Oh, forgot to mention – there were 5 of us. (Heck, this post is getting so unorganized de)

When paying, we complaint to another person about the orders and told them to advice the customers when taking ppl’s order. GUESS WHAT SHE REPLIED? “But.. just now that woman, she’s the GM!” wtf!

Oklar.. that’s all. Sorry if there’s an error or what-so-ever mistake in post ya, Got no time to tidy up and the picture is taken from Google Search (just putting up because I realised there’s not much picture nowadays).

Gotta run now!
